Weβre glad youβve found SHARP.
SHARP Pickleball is a friendly, fast-growing club based in St Albans and Harpenden, bringing players together through social play, team pickleball, coaching opportunities, league matches and club events.
The club started in 2024 as a small social group of friends looking for something active to do when golf was called off by the weather. Since then, it has grown into a thriving local pickleball club with a strong community on and off the court.
SHARP is built around enjoyable play, fair competition and a welcoming club atmosphere. Our sessions give members the chance to meet other players, improve their game, stay active and take part in the growing pickleball scene across Hertfordshire.
Whether you are new to the sport, building confidence, returning after time away, or looking for competitive match play, SHARP gives members a place to play, improve, compete and feel part of a club.
As the club continues to grow, we aim to keep sessions well organised, friendly and enjoyable for members, while supporting opportunities for development, team play and social connection.
Current Status π‘
SHARP Pickleball membership is currently at full capacity. This means we are not accepting new members at this time.
The club has grown quickly, and we need to manage membership carefully so sessions stay enjoyable, organised and playable for current members.

What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a sport played with a paddle that combines elements from badminton, tennis, and ping pong.
The game is played on a court with the same measurements as badminton doubles.
The net is similar to a tennis net, but a little lower.
The game is played with a hard βpaddleβ and a hard, hollow plastic ball with holes in it.
Even though pickleball is like tennis, there are important differences that make pickleball especially more accessible for children and seniors.
The most important difference is the speed of the ball. A pickleball ball travels at about a third of the average speed of a tennis ball. The pickleball court is roughly a third of the size of a tennis court.
The smaller surface area combined with the slower ball speed and an underhand serve, makes pickleball easier to play than tennis.
The game is the fastest growing game in the USA with more than 4.2 million players. The tipping point was around 5 years ago. Now, Pickleball Courts are popping up all over the country including in retirement communities. The game started to take off in the UK around 2011 and now has over 120 Places to play and over 4,000 estimated players.
